Overview

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an ALN Teaching Assistant role in Newport on behalf of a partnership school. This is an excellent opportunity for a teaching assistant, SEN teaching assistant, or autism support worker looking for a rewarding school‑based role. The successful candidate will support pupils within the school’s Learning Resource Base (LRB), a class of children with severe autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and some behavioural challenges. We seek a resilient, patient and compassionate individual who can make a positive difference every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils with additional learning needs (ALN) in a small specialist class
• Assist children with autism (ASD) and behavioural needs
• Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
• Provide emotional, social and educational support
• Help create a safe, caring and structured learning environment
• Work closely with teachers and other teaching assistants
• Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
• Follow school safeguarding and behaviour policies

Requirements

• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
• Child‑only DBS on the update service
• Two professional references covering the last 24 months
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Experience Needed

• Experience working in SEN schools, ALN classrooms, care work, support work, or with children with additional needs
• Personal experience of supporting children with SEN/ALN, or a desire to train and develop in this area

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position; the option to make the role permanent may become available later.
