Main duties of the job

To be responsible for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all the multidisciplinary teams, carers, hotel service staff and general public. To provide a friendly, clean and safe environment for patients and staff, ensuring a positive service user experience that reflects the values of Summerhill Services Limited (SSL) and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities GENERAL
  • Ensure, in conjunction with the ward team, that cleaning standards meet agreed levels and any shortfalls are addressed quickly, including assistance with cleaning and catering tasks.
  • Maintain day area, dining room and interview rooms, keeping them clean, tidy and welcoming for patients and visitors.
  • Clean patients’ en- suite bedrooms, keeping them free of clutter and ensuring the ward is tidy at all times.
  • Manage curtain changing programme throughout the ward in line with Trust policy.
  • Prepare en-suite bedrooms for new admissions after patient discharge.
  • Wash and correctly store patients’ personal clothing.
  • Order consumables and supplies, ensuring correct storage and rotation.
  • Assist nursing staff with cleaning medical equipment.
  • Attend all mandatory and non-mandatory training as required.
  • Manage all patients’ meals, snacks and beverages, including special diets, following standards and procedures.
  • Ensure the ward complies with the Trust Food Hygiene Policy, monitoring fridge temperature and reporting any non-compliance to the Clinical Manager.
  • Follow infection control procedures and complete relevant training.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies for children, vulnerable adults and infection control.
PROFESSIONAL
  • Engage in the Trust appraisal process to identify personal development and training needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Data Protection Act, trust policy and good practice.
  • Report medical or electrical equipment needing repair or PAT testing to the Hadden helpdesk, maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Report pest control incidents to the appropriate supervisor, facilities/hotel services manager or ward manager.
  • Answer telephones in the absence of nursing staff.
  • Safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, patients, visitors and the public by implementing all relevant security policies.
Person specification Training and Qualifications
  • NVQ2 in Customer Care, COPC Certificate, Infection Control.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous experience in a Housekeeping/Support Services role with an understanding of good food hygiene practice and the ability to deal with complaints.
Skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, literacy and numeracy; ability to use initiative, prioritise tasks and report effectively.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Personal Qualities
  • Drive and enthusiasm, calm disposition, non-judgemental approach, empathy towards service users; ability to prioritise tasks.
Other
  • Flexible and adaptable approach; willingness to work unsociable hours.
  • Required to work across SSL/Trust sites.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • Good attendance record.
