We need a Patient Safety Support Officer who’s passionate about helping people with a range of complex mental health needs.

Job Summary

The Patient Safety Support Officer plays a key role in supporting incident reporting and management, learning processes and quality assurance across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily validation of incidents entered onto Datix, including reviewing conflicts, amending and correcting these where necessary and liaising with sites to aid better reporting in the future.
  • Support the reporting, triage and escalation of significant incidents, ensuring adherence to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
  • Supporting data analysis to identify incident trends, risk themes and safety metrics to identify areas for improvement and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Support with the organisation’s learning and response registers, including follow up with sites on action plans, action completion and embedding of change.
  • Supporting the production of monthly and quarterly reports, ad-hoc reports when required and Datix audits.
Essential Experience Required
  • Education – evidence of good general education to A Level/NVQ standard.
  • Organisational Skills – ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
  • Communication Skills – ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • IT Skills – familiarity with standard Microsoft Office software, working knowledge of Teams/Zoom and experience of working with data and spreadsheets.
  • Emotional Resilience – comfortable working with sensitive information and having access to documentation regarding challenging incidents. Comfortable with lone/remote working.
  • Some understanding of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
Desirable
  • Clinical Governance Knowledge – some understanding of patient safety principles, risk management, and quality assurance in mental health/social care settings.
  • Analytical Skills – experience in interpreting data, identifying patterns and presenting findings.IT Skills – familiarity with incident reporting systems (preferably Datix) and Power BI.
