Description
We are looking for a Principal Developer used to implementing change, who can shape the direction of how we manage our support functions, frameworks and practices. You will be responsible for the existing support which spans multiple teams and a large estate of applications and services, whilst reviewing and identifying improvements to fit our changing technical needs. We provide data to customers through a number of well-established web and desktop services. We are also moving into new markets for innovative maritime data products which will reach new and existing customers through cloud-based software services and infrastructure. These services are developed by our in-house development teams and by external partners. Our new services will be built largely from cloud and open source components, requiring the use of PaaS and SaaS components as well as bespoke software development. They will require more resilience and will use the latest continuous delivery technologies and techniques to ensure we can quickly deliver value and innovation to our customers and effectively manage risk, quality and the security of our products. You will work with our teams and stakeholders to look at different support frameworks and practices and review, recommend and implement the best support approaches to fit with the support model. Job Description You will work with delivery team leads across the business, leading the day-to-day technical and best practice choices. You will work closely with the existing support delivery team to help ensure that service levels are met, incidents are dealt with effectively, and software development meets industry best practice for quality and continuous delivery. You may line manage and mentor some senior technical colleagues. Additionally you will have responsibility for quality across all customer-facing applications, so that: *All teams' continuous delivery pipelines are effective *Technical quality of all team's deliveries meet the right standards (including security), ensuring that they can be supported to the right service levels, and that they can be further evolved in a sustainable manner *Technical debt is well managed across applications and services, working with Delivery Managers and Product Owners *Necessary changes required to our current support practices to support our future needs are recommended and implemented *Practices and approaches to improve support in delivery teams are introduced, working with our Delivery and Capability Team to support the support model. *Application Lifecycle Management is understood and actively managed throughout the lifecycle of our services, ensuring that services are invested in or retired as necessary *Lifecycle Management of technical components is well managed across all services *Support and lifecycle requirements are considered upfront and throughout development of services Our Perks We offer a great work / life balance.
