Hazardous Goods Packer: Precise, Safe Packaging, Leeds

Farnell, an Avnet company, is a global high‑service distributor of technology products, services and solutions for electronic system design, maintenance and repair.

We are looking for someone on a 12‑month secondment to serve as Hazardous Goods Packer at our UK1 distribution centre.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

The Hazardous Goods Packer is responsible for the safe and efficient packing of hazardous materials for transportation, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

• Safely and efficiently pack hazardous goods according to established guidelines and regulations.
• Ensure all packed goods are correctly labelled and documented in compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, IATA, IMDG, ADR).
• Inspect packages for leaks, spills, or damage and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
• Maintain accurate records of packed goods and complete necessary paperwork.
• Coordinate with shipping and receiving departments to ensure timely dispatch of packed goods.
• Operate packaging equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
• Conduct regular inventory checks of hazardous materials and packaging supplies.
• Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in safety training programs and stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Assist in emergency response procedures related to hazardous materials.

• Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role, preferably within the logistics or transportation industry.
• Strong understanding of hazardous materials regulations (OSHA, DOT, IATA, IMDG).
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Physical ability to lift and move packages.
• Forklift certification (desirable).

• Certification in hazardous materials handling (e.g., HAZWOPER, HazMat).
• Shipment of dangerous goods by road sea and air certification – ADR & IMDG.
• Experience with inventory management systems.
• Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
