Job summary
Britains energy infrastructure is under increasing pressure as we transition to a net-zero energy system, making the health and resilience of electrical assets more critical than ever. Ofgem is seeking an Electrical Assets Specialist (Senior Specialist Engineer) to play a leading role in strengthening regulatory assurance and oversight of asset health across the energy sector.

Were offering a permanent opportunity within our newly established Asset Health&Network Resilience team, where you will contribute to the creation of a new Asset Health Inspectorate. Providing engineering insight and oversight for licensed energy companies, you will support secure, resilient infrastructure that delivers for consumers.
Operating as a senior engineering specialist within Ofgem, youll support informed decision-making at senior levels, helping ensure that regulatory approaches are underpinned by strong engineering judgement and a clear understanding of risk, resilience and long-term system needs.
Youll contribute to the development of frameworks and approaches that strengthen oversight of energy infrastructure across the sector and engage with colleagues and external stakeholders to support consistent, proportionate and future-focused assurance that helps protect consumers and support a secure transition to net zero.

Essential Criteria
- Extensive experience in a specialist engineering role relevant to electrical asset management and network resilience within the regulated electricity sector, with the capability to lead in these areas.(Lead)
- Deep technical expertise in electrical asset health, lifecycle and degradation, with a proven ability to assess infrastructure performance and apply effective risk-mitigation and resilience strategies.(Lead)
- Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in the design, build, maintenance and operation of electricity networks.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and diverse organisational environments, acting as an internal expert who can advise, influence and constructively challenge senior leaders on strategic and operational performance matters.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, accessible information for non-technical audiences.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline (or possessing equivalent industry experience), with expertise in a related professional engineering specialism demonstrated through an appropriate qualification (e.g., Chartered Engineer status or working towards this), alongside a working knowledge of the commercial and regulatory framework governing the GB Gas and Electricity industry.
