EYFS TA: Reception & Nursery Phonics & Reading, Lewisham

We are an inclusive and high-achieving primary school in the London Borough of Lewisham seeking a passionate and experienced Early Years Teaching Assistant (Reception Focus) to join our team for an ASAP start. This is a long‑term, term‑time‑only role, with a strong focus on Reception, while also supporting across Nursery when required.

This Early Years Teaching Assistant (Reception Focus) opportunity is ideal for a candidate with broad Early Years experience (not just preschool) and a good understanding of early reading development, phonics, and language acquisition.

• Support teaching and learning across Reception (primary focus) and Nursery (ages 2–5)
• Deliver and support phonics sessions and early reading development
• Assist with spelling, reading, and early writing activities
• Encourage play‑based learning in line with the EYFS framework
• Help create a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment
• Support children’s social, emotional, and academic development

• Degree from a reputable university
• Have solid Early Years experience across Nursery and/or Reception
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of the EYFS Framework
• Have knowledge or experience of phonics and early literacy development
• Be proactive, engaging, and enthusiastic, with a genuine passion for Early Years education
• Show a warm, caring, and patient approach to supporting young children
• Communicate effectively with staff, pupils, and parents
