About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Childcare Officer to join a welcoming and supportive SEN school in Chelmsford. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them to thrive both academically and personally.

As a Childcare Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students day-to-day care, emotional wellbeing, and development within a structured and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality care and support to pupils with special educational needs, including SEMH, ASD, learning difficulties, and complex needs
Assist students with daily routines, including personal care where required
Support pupils social, emotional, and behavioural development
Work alongside teachers and support staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment
Assist with managing behaviour in line with school policies
Encourage independence and confidence in all students
Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers

Requirements

Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or care setting
A patient, caring, and resilient nature
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic environment
Relevant childcare or support qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 in Childcare or Health & Social Care) is desirable but not essential
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
