Are you a resilient, empathetic, and dedicated individual looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialised SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) School in Leyland.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a supportive environment where your contribution directly helps students overcome barriers to learning and personal growth.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to students who face significant challenges with emotional regulation and social interaction. You will work closely with class teachers and the pastoral team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Support: Work 1:1 or in small groups with students to deliver tailored interventions.

  • Emotional Regulation: Use trauma-informed practices to help students manage their emotions and de-escalate challenging behaviours.

  • Academic Assistance: Help students access the curriculum by adapting tasks to their specific needs and interests.

  • Relationship Building: Act as a positive role model, building trusting and consistent relationships with pupils.

  • Monitoring Progress: Assist in tracking emotional and academic milestones, contributing to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who doesn't just "show up," but who is truly invested in the welfare of vulnerable young people.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.

  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Qualifications: A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred, but personality and attitude are paramount.

  • Mindset: A patient, non-judgemental, and "restorative" approach to behaviour management.

Why Apply?

  • Competitive Salary: A stable salary of 25,500, paid weekly during the initial temporary period.

  • Career Progression: This role is Temporary to Permanent, offering a clear pathway to a long-term career within the school.

  • Professional Growth: Access to specialised training in mental health support, de-escalation techniques, and SEN education.

  • Impact: The chance to transform the educational experience for students who have often struggled in mainstream settings.
