Position Overview

Band 2 kitchen and ward catering staff – no visa sponsorship. The role involves working within the kitchen and ward areas to deliver efficient, high‑quality catering services to patients, staff and visitors. Duties include taking patient food orders, serving food at ward level, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, replenishing supplies, using electrical equipment (e.g., oven, dishwasher), wearing protective clothing and completing daily/weekly sign‑off sheets including HACCP paperwork. Flexible approach to daily routine is required.

  • Contract: Permanent
  • Working pattern: Part‑time, 10.56 hours per week (Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Salary: Pro‑rata for part‑time hours
Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of catering services to patients, staff, visitors and hospital functions.
  • Regenerating patients' meals either centrally or at ward level.
  • Plating patient meals at the point of service as advised by nursing staff.
  • Cleaning and wash‑up of all equipment, machinery, and crockery associated with catering services.
  • Assisting food production staff with the basic preparation of meals.
  • Picking and packing patient meal components.
  • Complying with food hygiene regulations and HACCP system for equipment cleaning and departmental cleanliness.
  • Maintaining high personal hygiene standards.
  • Complying with health and safety regulations, including manual handling, risk assessment and fire safety training.
  • Reporting faulty equipment.
  • Operating cash register at point of service and managing cash handling.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Knowledge of all aspects of catering services (training will be provided).
  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate – training provided.
  • Training will be provided for meals regeneration and service.
  • Good communication and customer care skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, COSHH and lifting & handling (training provided).
  • Knowledge of infection control practices (training provided).
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Able to be flexible and adaptable.
