Payroll Officer, Walkden

Role: Payroll Officer Location: Manchester, 3 days office, 2 days remote each week Houryl rate:£14.36 - £15.39 per hour DOE Duration: 3-6 month contract initially, possibility for the role to become permanent An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a busy organisation operating across the utilities and construction sectors. This role will support payroll operations during a key period of change and systems development.The successful candidate will have knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Officer Process weekly and fortnightly payrolls for both site-based and office employeesSupport the implementation of new payroll systems, including testing, data migration, and user training Work closely with finance and IT teams to improve payroll processes and reporting Prepare and submit P11D forms in line with HMRC requirements Support year-end payroll activities, reconciliations, audits, and statutory reportingMaintain accurate payroll records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes Produce payroll reports and analysis for finance and operational teams Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and industry-specific payroll practices Liaise with HR, finance, and operational managers during project mobilisation and demobilisation phasesSkills and Experience Required Previous payroll experience within a fast-paced environment Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements Experience using payroll systems such as ADP, PeopleHub, Sage, or similar Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with HR and finance systemsStrong communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving Desirable Experience Experience managing payroll across multiple sites or projects Knowledge of CIS and contractor compliance within construction environments To be considered for this Payroll Officer opportunity, you must APPLY NOW, making sure to attach your up-to-date CV.*Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an initial telephone interview.
