The role

As a Medical Secretary within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in supporting Consultants and clinical teams to deliver high-quality, patient‑centred care. This is a dynamic and rewarding position where you will act as a key point of contact for patients, staff and external partners, helping to coordinate every stage of the patient journey. Working in one of the UK’s largest NHS Boards, you will be part of a supportive organisation that values compassion, dignity and teamwork.

Duration: Permanent

Location: Beatson West Of Scotland Cancer Care

Hours: Part Time (15 hours)

Working Pattern: Monday and Tuesdays (08:30-16:30)

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part‑time hours.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultant teams including typing, correspondence and report preparation
  • Manage complex diaries, appointments and clinic schedules to ensure efficient use of clinical time
  • Act as a main point of contact, handling telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries from patients, relatives and multidisciplinary teams
  • Coordinate patient pathways, including appointments, admissions and waiting list management, in line with targets
  • Liaise with departments to maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient records and clinical information
  • Prioritise and organise workload independently, responding to urgent matters with initiative and sound judgement
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • HNC or SVQ Level 3 in Secretarial Studies or Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic patient systems
  • Advanced keyboard and audio typing skills with a high level of accuracy
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare processes
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing competing priorities
