This is an exciting role for someone with digital experience to help develop our partnership approach to international development which is based on sharing, not shifting power. We are looking for someone to make change happen through collaboration, innovation and shared responsibility.
What difference will you make?We need your digital expertise to support our partner organisation to embed appropriate aspects of digital technology into their projects, especially in relation to promoting tourism at Karibuni Eco Cottages, so that maximum impact from these can be achieved. Although there have been several successful small scale IT related projects we are aware that much more could be achieved by establishing a coherent digital strategy which will
- Support existing projects such as Girls’ Support Groups and Teacher Training
- Develop a new Girls’ Digital Skills project to build feminist leadership by giving new age technology skills to girls & young women, helping them understand their rights and then assert them
- Explore how IT and digital technology can support all aspects of our developing Karibuni Social Enterprise strategy
- Use technology to build capacity in and provide support for Twende Pamoja Board and staff as they become more autonomous
We know the impact of the projects in Kenya is enormous, but this off line success needs to be translated into online growth for both ourselves and Twende Pamoja, so financial sustainability is ensured. With your experience, our website would pass the 3-second engagement test and could generate more active conversions to monthly donations. Website menus become more action oriented and storytelling and compelling visuals become strong features attracting more web traffic.
In the UK, with all things digital embedded in our operations and governance operations we will be efficient and sustainable. For example a digital marketing strategy will help establish UK corporate, school and university links. The starting point for this role would be to lead on the creation of a coherent project plan for a new digital strategy for Team Kenya and build capacity for similar process for Twende Pamoja
What are we looking for?We are keen to hear from people with expertise in technology, digital transformation and related fields. An interest in global issues such as economic and environmental sustainability and climate change and how these can be addressed on a small scale by local communities is essential. Ideally you will have
- A successful track record in digital strategy development and implementation
- Experience of working at a senior management / leadership level
- Demonstrable and practical experience of delivering transformational change to processes, delivering time and cost savings and improved reporting outcomes
- Experience of current agile project management practices, open source, cloud platforms and digital services
- Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to take collective responsibility for the governance of our charity
- Ability to work at a strategic and visionary level whilst understanding the detail and complexities of delivery, and the influencing skills needed to bring staff and stakeholders along with plans
- Strong communicator.
- Ability to analyse risks and opportunities, and take a balanced approach to both
- Extensive networks, and a willingness to draw on contacts as appropriate
- Willingness to make a long term commitment to Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja
Hybrid
What will you be doing? As a small, volunteer led charity, we rely on trustees to support the implementation of our strategy. With this in mind, you will be a digital champion — making technology a genuine force for good. By inspiring our Kenyan partners and UK volunteers, you will help us reach further, connect deeper and multiply our impact in ways we have not yet imagined. Staying ahead of the curve, bringing fresh thinking, and shaping a digital strategy that truly changes lives. We need to grow our supporter base and engage with more stakeholders and know that digital is the way forward. To do this we need your knowledge and experience to upskill volunteers, partner organisation staff and our board members. By embedding digital thinking into our strategy and aligning our online presence with our organisational goals we can increase our impact and reach. We don’t want digital to be an afterthought, rather a strategic priority that can accelerate our mission.
As a board we hold quarterly online meetings, an annual workshop alongside our AGM and other opportunities throughout the year to connect with trustees, advisers, volunteers and Twende Pamoja staff in Kenya. A visit to Kenya to see Twende Pamoja’s projects in action and how truly impactful they are is highly recommended. This is especially important as it will allow you to experience staying at Karibuni Eco-Cottages – the hub of Twende Pamoja’s exciting new social enterprise developments and other innovative projects.
