Volunteer Engagement Trustee - Volunteer, Wideopen
Description

At Team Kenya we rely on volunteers for a range of activities in the UK, including communication and engagement, fundraising and our global citizenship education activities. Engaging new volunteers and supporting existing ones is essential for our effectiveness and sustainability.

What difference will you make?

As a small, volunteer‑led charity, we rely on trustees to support the implementation of our strategy. This is a varied role with oversight of multiple areas.

  • Recruit new volunteers and coordinate activities in digital, social enterprise, communications and engagement, maintaining an overview of our volunteer structure as it develops.
  • Ensure all volunteers understand our approach and the importance of the Karibuni social enterprise strategy, which underpins everything we do.
  • Support volunteer work that drives real change and transforms the lives of a small rural community in western Kenya.
  • Promote the impact of our partner organisation’s work in Kenya to increase our reach and income in the UK.
What are we looking for?

We are keen to hear from people with experience of working with volunteers and an interest in global issues such as economic and environmental sustainability and climate change, and how these can be addressed on a small scale by local communities.

  • Successful track record in strategy development and implementation.
  • Experience at a senior management/leadership level.
  • Good people‑management skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Capacity to work flexibly to keep volunteers supported and engaged.
  • Experience working with others passionate about making a difference.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take collective responsibility for charity governance.
  • Strategic and visionary thinking while understanding details and complexities of volunteer work and influencing skills needed to bring people along with plans.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse risks and opportunities and take a balanced approach.
  • Extensive networks and willingness to draw on contacts as appropriate.
  • Willingness to make a long‑term commitment to Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja.
Hybrid What will you be doing?

You will liaise with trustees and lead volunteers to ensure resources support our current strategy. You will support volunteers in their roles, maintain accurate records for trustees, develop relationships with lead volunteers, and help them communicate and network. A visit to Kenya to see Twende Pamoja’s projects in action and experience life in western Kenya is highly recommended, including staying at Karibuni Eco‑Cottages, the hub of Twende Pamoja’s social enterprise developments.
