The post holder will work as an integral part of the in‑patient clinical team. He/she will be responsible for coordinating all patient facility services in the in‑patient area, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment. The role involves working closely with ISS (service providers) to deliver cleaning, catering and maintenance services; monitoring quality standards, reporting deficiencies, taking appropriate action; providing cross‑cover for clerical duties in the absence of the ward clerk; and undertaking training appropriate to the role.

Main duties of the job
  • Receive patients, relatives and visitors on the ward in a friendly and welcoming manner, referring to nursing staff as necessary.
  • Deal with telephone enquiries and ensure messages are recorded or passed on appropriately.
  • Maintain ADT system, case note folders, nursing folders and ensure filing of results daily; trace old notes, missing reports and results.
  • Prepare nursing folders for each patient and ensure all patient folders are complete before leaving the ward.
  • Check and ensure timely dispatch of electronic discharge summaries.
  • Order and check notes and stationery, maintaining adequate stock levels as directed by nursing staff.
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards, including spot cleaning of spillages; ensure general and specialist equipment are cleaned as per policy.
  • Assist in monitoring selection, ordering and serving of patient food, taking into account special needs and dietary requirements; help patients eat and drink when necessary; ensure hot/cold snacks and drinks are available; monitor compliance with food hygiene regulations.
  • Assist in monitoring service delivery relating to cleaning, food, linen and the environment; maintain records of maintenance requests and follow up; ensure equipment is in a good state of repair and decontaminated as per policy; report pest control issues.
  • Maintain clinical store rooms; receive and check orders, stock up and tidy; liaise with relevant individuals for discrepancies and non‑stock supplies.
  • Provide customer care, acting with respect, quality, dignity and confidentiality to each patient, relative and visitor; act in a courteous and helpful manner to all patients, visitors and staff; serve as liaison between patients, relatives and various service providers.
  • Undertake any further duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Ward Sister or Charge nurse.
Person Specification
  • Computer literate.
  • Evidence of education: A level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of minor repairs.
  • Knowledge of stocks and maintenance.
  • Customer care experience.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Experience in maintaining stocks and equipment.
  • Proficiency in the trust’s PROUD values.
