For every suicide, an estimated 135 people are deeply affected and face an increased risk themselves. To reach fundraisers, partners and supporters more effectively, SoBS relies on thoughtful, consistent communications. That’s where you come in!
What difference will you make?Around one million people are affected by suicide loss each year. 60% of those people will think about suicide too, but the support bereaved people receive is devastatingly limited. We believe no one should face this grief alone.
Our support services are delivered entirely by over 500 dedicated volunteers and keeping that community informed, inspired, and connected is vital to everything we do. Your support on the newsletter will help our volunteers feel valued, celebrated, and part of something bigger.
What are we looking for?We' re looking for someone with a flair for storytelling and a genuine passion for connecting people. You'll have strong writing and communication skills, and experience in content creation, internal comms, or a similar field, though what matters most is your enthusiasm and creativity. You'll be confident reaching out to volunteers and colleagues to gather their stories, comfortable shaping a variety of content into a cohesive publication, and motivated to make the newsletter something people genuinely value. Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail will go a long way too. You don't have to have been impacted by suicide loss to support us, but we hope you'd bring an empathetic and compassionate approach to everything you do.
What will you be doing? You'll be at the heart of our volunteer community, supporting the production of our quarterly internal newsletter, a space for sharing news, stories, and insights from across our support groups up and down the country. With over 500 volunteers in our network, you'll help us gather stories and updates from our local groups, conduct interviews with the incredible professionals in our network and shape these into engaging features that bring our community to life. You'll work closely with our friendly head office team, who handle day-to-day messaging, so that the newsletter has its own distinct identity warm, community-driven, and full of the things that make SoBS special!
We hope you'll be able to give us a few hours of your time each week, but as the newsletter is quarterly we're flexible to your needs and availability. This is an ongoing opportunity, and we'd love to help you add to your current skillset.
