Compensation Range$18.61 to $26.59
Position‑Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities- Positive and supportive team member to staff members and the hospital.
- Treats all customers in a professional, courteous, and prompt manner.
- Demonstrates a professional and caring attitude.
- Compliant with Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures and State/Federal Regulations.
- Adheres to policies and procedures for infection control, HIPAA, as well as safety and risk management.
- Completes required emergency planning drills.
- Interacts with other departments in solving problems and working as a team.
- Participates in interdepartmental process improvements and process evaluation.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Serve as a liaison between the clinic and hospital labs and as a reference for nursing staff.
- Keeps supplies stocked and ordered as needed.
- Ensures accurate patient demographics and tests are entered in computer database.
- Provides necessary instructions to customers for specimen collection.
- Answers telephone and assists caller as needed.
- Proficient in phlebotomy skills for all ages using appropriate collection devices.
- Prepares specimens to ship to reference labs.
- Performs venipunctures and collects blood cultures.
- Collects throat, nares, and nasopharyngeal samples.
- Starts tests and obtains specimens for glucose tolerance tests.
- Performs drug and breath alcohol screens.
- Performs paternity collections.
- Participates in proficiency testing.
- Calls critical values per department policy.
- Proficient in performing CLIA waived testing.
- Proficient in performing quality control for CLIA waived testing.
- Pack, unpack, and receive blood products.
- Responds to Code Blue and Traumas.
- Exhibits proper use of two patient identifiers.
- Applies guidelines for age appropriate and patient mental status.
- Performs quality control on Glucometer each day of use.
- Disposes of and changes sharps containers.
- Reconciles DTC reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates full commitment to the CHOICE values of MRH and consistently represents the organization in a positive, professional manner.
- Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication, fostering positive working relationships with patients, staff, and vendors.
- Adheres to the MRH attire and dress code in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Exhibits initiative and self‑motivation; maintains a consistent level of productivity and manages time and responsibilities effectively.
- Completes all required annual education, training, in‑services, and licensure/certification updates; actively participates in departmental and organizational meetings or reviews meeting minutes as required.
- Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work punctually and completes assigned duties within established timeframes.
- Actively contributes to departmental and organization‑wide performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, maintaining adherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
- Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
- Phlebotomy certification (Required).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or be obtained within Ninety (90) days of hire). (Required).
- One (1) year of phlebotomy experience (Required).
- Working knowledge of medical terminology (Required).
