Job Description
Ipswich High Schoolis seeking an experienced and approachablefinance professionalto lead the school's finance function within our supportive and ambitious school community.
Set within an idyllic 87-acre campus on the banks of the River Orwell, Ipswich High School is a thriving independent day and boarding school for over 500 pupils aged 3-18 years old, combining excellent academic outcomes with a warm and welcoming environment.
This is a broad and rewarding role which combines hands-on financial management with involvement in the wider operational and strategic life of the school. You will lead the day-to-day running of the finance function, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit preparation, compliance and transactional finance activities, while supporting effective financial decision-making across the school.
Working closely with the Head, Senior Leadership Team and Governors, you will provide clear financial insight and practical advice, helping to ensure the continued financial stability and success of the school. The role offers significant opportunity to guide the development of the school, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing operational delivery with senior-level involvement and responsibility.
The successful candidate will be a proactive and organised finance professional who enjoys working collaboratively within a close-knit community and takes pride in delivering accurate, efficient and well-managed financial operations.

- Has effective financial management experience, ideally supported by ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualifications or experience
- Is confident managing budgets, forecasts, reporting and financial controls
- Has experience overseeing day-to-day finance operations and maintaining effective financial processes
- Can communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance colleagues
- Is organised, practical and able to manage competing priorities effectively
- Can lead and develop finance teams
- Understands the importance of financial stewardship in an education setting
- Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a wider school community
- Is proactive, professional and motivated to contribute positively to the continued success of the school.
