Schedule & Commitment

All volunteer roles are available Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. A regular commitment of 3–4 hours per week is required.

Main Duties of the Job

Ward Volunteer

  • Spend time with patients, offering friendly conversation and a listening ear.
  • Chat or read with patients who may not have visitors.
  • Support patients with hydration: offer drinks, refill water jugs, and encourage fluids.
  • Read to patients who may struggle to read themselves or enjoy being read to.
  • Notice and support patients who may feel lonely or anxious.
  • Create moments of calm, reassurance, and connection.

Response Volunteer

  • Collect and deliver notes, swabs, medication, equipment and run errands between departments and wards.
  • Support clinics by providing drinks to patients and helping staff with sign‑posting information for patients.
  • Provide a courtesy "Meet & Greet" service (wheelchair training required) to guide patients to their appointments.
  • Operate a library service to wards.
  • Assist with wellbeing rounds, offering drinks to patients on wards.
  • Guide people around the hospital and proactively assist anyone who may be lost or needs help (floating guide).
  • Take the Brew Buddy (drinks trolley) out to support staff wellbeing.
