The successful candidate will offer general assistance to the Nursing Team, liaising closely withthe Practice Nurses. The post holderwill be expected to abide by and promote the Practice vision and corevalues.

As a HCA, you will be involved primarily in the provision of aphlebotomy service, the management of laboratory samples for the practicepatients, components of the new patient check, urinalysis, ECG recording,chaperoning patients, cleaning and sterilising of instruments, maintenance ofequipment, ordering of stock and re-stocking GPs and Nurses treatment rooms.

You will also be responsible for documenting your patientconsultations on the information systems in General Practice and maintainingappropriate records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients.

You will maintain your skills and competencies and undertakesuch training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintainpersonal competency.

As a HCA, you will support the Practice by participating in all activities required by CQC registration.

Your role will require you to display flexibility with regard to rotas and workingpatterns across all Lancaster Medical Practice.

Main duties of the job

• To assist in general nursingduties, under the supervision of the Practice Nursing Team, i.e. Urine testing,weight/height, blood pressure measurements, ECG recording, phlebotomy, and thedelivery of flu vaccinations (with appropriate training).
• To be responsible for the correctmaintenance and cleaning of surgical equipment,
• To be responsible for theprocessing and management of laboratory samples requested by the GP/ PracticeNurses with specific responsibility to ensure that the samples are correctlylabelled, sent to the laboratory promptly and that data is entered onto thepatients computer records.
• Demonstrate sensitivecommunication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent totreatment.
• To provide a phlebotomy servicefor patients.
• To act in such a manner as tosupport the patient at all times and be mindful of the need to reduce anxietyfor the client/patient.
• Apply infection control measureswithin the Practice according to local and national guidelines.
• To act as a chaperone as requiredto GPs and Practice Nurses.
• To receive and document telephonemessages as and when necessary and communicate to other members of the clinicalteam as appropriate.
• Participate in the completion andreview of significant events and identify learning points.
• Ensure clinical waste is removedfrom clinical areas and that sharps bins are replaced in accordance with thepractice policy.

Person Specification Experience

• Previous experience that demonstrates good attention to detail.
• Experience of working in a confidential environment
• Previous experience of working in General Practice, NHS or Healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level.
• Care certificate.

Skills

• Experience of wound care
• Experience of delivering ECGs
• Experience of new patient medicals
• Ability to record accurate clinical notes
• An excellent standard of grammar and spelling in the English language
• Good general computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, email and the internet
• Good interpersonal skills
• Experience of spirometry
• Familiarity with EMIS Web
