We're looking for a Night Support Worker to join our team on a permanent, part‑time basis.

Salary: £14.40 - £14.63 hourly rate

£24,796 - £25,185 per year full time equivalent (plus enhancements)

Enhancements: Weekend working – Time & a half, Bank Holidays – Double time, Night enhancement (8:00 pm – 10:00 pm shifts)

Working Pattern: Part‑time, 20 hours per week

Contract Length: Permanent

Location: Ball Tree Croft Care Home, Sompting, Lancing

As a Night Support Worker, you will
  • Provide personal physical, emotional care and support during a waking night shift.
  • Listen to people and treat all with respect, kindness and dignity.
  • Undertake light domestic duties as required to ensure cleanliness, comfort and safety for people we support throughout the day (e.g., laundry, or cleaning an area after a person has required personal care).
  • Complete regular hourly checks around the service, including checking on people's wellbeing and the security of the building.

You will work as part of a team based within a residential setting. As a Night Support Worker, you will be required to provide safe, effective and personalised support and care in helping individuals to bed, getting up in the morning and responding to their emotional and physical wellbeing as required during the night.

This role will involve moving and handling, for example, assisting people to walk and moving people between a wheelchair and chair using a hoist.

You will be required to be on duty for up to a 10‑hour shift, during which time you are required to stay awake and provide appropriate care. There may also be a need to work evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the service.

About Ball Tree Croft

Ball Tree Croft is a registered residential care home providing person‑centred care and support for up to 15 adults over the age of 18 who have a learning disability. It has four bedrooms where people can have short breaks. An important part of what we do is enabling and encouraging people to be independent and make choices about their day‑to‑day lives, from deciding what colour they have on their bedroom wall, to riding a bike, going to work or future planning within the service. We always ensure people are supported to explore opportunities. For example, we now have People Ambassadors who represent the voice of the people using our service.

What you need to succeed

You’ll need to demonstrate a basic understanding of working with people with learning disabilities, dementia and other cognitive impairments, and adults with physical and sensory impairments.

Key Skills
  1. Ability to interpret information, such as service complaints, and then redirect them to the appropriate person to provide quick and accurate resolution.
  2. Good communication and interpersonal skills to provide clear and concise specialist advice and guidance to a range of people we support. Be able to work with a person who might be less able to express themselves and understand non‑verbal communication.
  3. Clear, concise basic literacy and numeracy skills to record and document activities in the care plan.
  4. Able to deal appropriately with expressive behaviour from people and respond sensitively to their families and carers.
  5. Able to build relationships with people from a wide variety of cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
  6. Ability to work as part of a team completing shared tasks to deliver a service to others.
Qualifications and/or Experience
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to record and document activities in the provider plans.
  • Diploma Level 2 in Care, or willingness to work towards, or equivalent qualification Desirable
  • Basic understanding of Safeguarding, the needs of the people and their rights as an individual.
  • Demonstrable successful experience of working as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practice, First Aid and Fire procedure, Manual Handling Desirable
  • Previous experience of working in a care setting and with people who have a disability or vulnerable people Desirable
