DT Teacher (Resistant Materials and Food Technology) - Permanent Contract

Mole Valley, Surrey

Full-time (term time only) – September 2026

£35,000 – £45,000 per annum

Interviews are arranged ASAP.

The school is a specialist setting in Mole Valley, Surrey, for pupils aged 7 to 16 with Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. All pupils hold an Education, Health and Care Plan. Classes are small, adult-to-pupil ratios are high, and the curriculum is personalised. Resistant Materials and Food Technology are integral to building confidence, independence and practical capability.

The headteacher leads from the front, working alongside staff to ensure they have what they need. This is not a place where staff feel like a number; wellbeing is supported, and staff are known, invested in and supported.

Pupil wellbeing sets the tone for everything else. Confidence, independence and self‑esteem are deliberately pursued alongside academic progress. In this specialist setting, the practical work of a DT teacher helps pupils learn planning, making, evaluating and trying again about themselves.

Teaching and therapy are integrated; teams plan around each pupil as a unit. This close collaboration gives teachers a deeper understanding of the young people they work with and an appreciation of the support their lessons require.

What the role includes:
  • Full‑time, permanent contract with a September 2026 start
  • Salary of £35,000 to £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience
  • Small classes with high adult‑to‑pupil ratios
  • Practical facilities covering Resistant Materials and Food Technology
  • Integrated therapy and teaching teams plan together around each pupil
  • Structured SEND training and ongoing professional development from day one
  • Visible, hands‑on leadership that invests in its staff

The school will consider candidates from mainstream backgrounds who are ready to move into specialist education, with full SEND training provided from day one. Applications are also welcome from candidates working towards QTS through the Assessment‑Only route, or from those who have come to teaching through industry or a vocational background. What matters is that you have chosen to work with young people with complex needs, and that your teaching reflects that choice.

The school is in Mole Valley and is accessible from across Surrey and West Sussex. Guildford, Leatherhead, Reigate, Redhill, Godalming, and Horsham are all within comfortable travelling distance.
