About The EmployerI am both the employer and mother to my son, who is diagnosed with Autism and severe learning disabilities. He is nonverbal, using PEC cards, gestures, hand‑over‑hand guiding, or pointing to communicate. He is able to provide his own personal hygiene, including toileting, but requires assistance with washing and wiping. His diet is poor; he enjoys snacking throughout the day. I am looking to recruit a Personal Assistant to provide 1–1 support, meeting his assessed needs, enabling him to access social activities in the community, and giving my family a break.
Activities May Include- Going out for walks
- Going to parks or the beach
- Swimming and trampoline parks
- Going to arcades and fun fairs
- Supporting and prompting personal care and hygiene
- Cognitive / Learning
- Invisible (support needs)
- Swimming
- Going to the beach or parks
- Arcades and fairgrounds
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Support or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
- Assist and encourage socialisation and participation in activities.
- Promote friendships and independence.
- Develop a trusting one‑to‑one working relationship.
Tasks may vary from day to day. You may be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. You have a responsibility to report all accidents, defects, or hazards that could lead to an accident, and to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
This role requires a satisfactory DBS disclosure. Costs will be covered by the employer.
Transport RequirementCar driver and car owner required; must have business insurance.
Required Skills- Honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy; no prohibited use of social media.
- Work independently on initiative.
- Patient, supportive and caring.
- Good listening skills and ability to provide non‑judgemental emotional support.
- Empathetic.
- Genuine interest in supporting people with a disability or illness to achieve their goals; prior caring experience not essential.
- Work flexibly, adapting to the employer's needs on a daily basis.
- Willingness to get involved and display a lively personality.
- Hours per week: 4 hours.
- Preferred day: Saturday, with flexibility for days and times as needed.
Dates and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
