About Us

We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision‑impaired ex‑service people from every generation rebuild their lives regardless of how or when they lost their sight. Founded in 1915 by Sir Arthur Pearson to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have supported those blinded in subsequent wars and military engagements, including the Second World War, and more recently, the conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan. We are now looking for a part‑time Driver to join us on a permanent basis, working 15 hours per week. The role will involve working Sunday and Monday, 7.5 hours each day, with regular paid overnight stays. This is a fulfilling opportunity for a people‑focused individual with a D1 driving licence to join our compassionate organisation. Your contributions will power a respectful, empowering transport service that provides people with the freedom to access life‑changing experiences. You’ll discover every journey is more than just a ride as you build connections, support the community and make a meaningful impact every day.

The Benefits
  • Salary of £11,344.32 (FTE £28,360.80 per annum)
  • Generous annual leave (pro rata) with the option to buy additional days
  • Pension scheme with generous employer contributions
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Access to legal services and mental health support
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Paid professional subscriptions and discounts
  • Home working allowance
  • Professional and personal development
The Role

As a Driver, you’ll provide a safe and enjoyable transportation service to the people using our services to and from our Rustington Centre and on journeys throughout their stay. Using a variety of vehicles, you will help create positive member experiences, ensuring a seamless service, transporting members for appointments or group outings, and focusing on safety, support and communication.

  • Plan and manage routes considering passenger needs and comfort
  • Perform routine vehicle checks and report any issues
  • Escort and provide sighted guiding when required
  • Assess venues for accessibility and suitability
About You

To be considered as a Driver, you will need:

  • A clean, valid driving licence with category D1 entitlement (for a minibus)
  • Experience in customer service
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases and intranet systems
  • A solution‑focused approach

The closing date for this role is 19 June 2026.

Webrecruit and Blind Veterans UK are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
