Kids Library Club Art and Engagement volunteer, Greater London
Description
Kids Library Club Art and Engagement volunteer

Hours Tuesdays 3pm - 6pm. commitment of at least two library clubs per month

The world is a varied and colourful place — and children deserve to see themselves reflected in the stories we tell.

Our weekly Kids Story Club (for ages 0–11) invites children and their grown‑ups to dive into our magical, inclusive library. Filled with hundreds of beautiful and diverse books, our collection explores themes you might not always find elsewhere — identity, emotions, hidden histories, colonialism, and a wide range of lived experiences.

Each week, families are invited to relax on squishy bean bags, enjoy snacks, discover new stories, and get stuck into a book‑inspired creative activity.

We’re especially interested in volunteers who enjoy working creatively with children and are keen to get involved in arts‑based activities.

This role is perfect for anyone interested in arts engagement, community arts, or working with children, and who wants to support a space where stories are expansive, inclusive, and empowering.

Main Duties

We’re looking for volunteers to help bring this space to life. As a Library Club volunteer, you might:

  • Support children and families to explore books and stories
  • Help create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment
  • Assist with our weekly visual arts and craft activities
  • Support (or help develop) creative, book‑inspired art sessions
  • Work alongside and support performance artists during our monthly reading and creative activations
What will the volunteering role offer the student and what will they learn while they are with you?

Volunteers will get experience working in a hyper‑local community setting, supporting children, families and residents. They’ll build confidence in talking to people, helping run sessions, and making sure everyone feels welcome and included.

They’ll also gain practical experience with creative activities — from helping out with weekly crafts to working alongside artists.

This role is a good fit for students interested in working with children, arts activities, literature, or community projects, and offers a realistic insight into how this kind of work happens day‑to‑day.
