Highly Specialist Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist in Cancer Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at one of the UK's largest NHS Trusts.We are looking fora Band 7 Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist who is ready for new challenges or an experienced Band 6 who is seeking promotional opportunities to join our prehabilitation team.

We are pleased to be expanding our well-established team to continue providing a trust wide prehabilitation service. The successful post holder will hold a leading role in the on-going development and running of a multidisciplinary prehabilitation service. The post-holder, supported by the clinical leads, will work alongside a dietician and occupational therapist as well as managing a team of 4 exercise physiologists across the trust to deliver a service that will not only reduce complications from hospital treatment but aim to improve patients'long-term health as they adopt lifestyle changes. The post-holder will also work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary teams including surgeons, oncologists, clinical nurse specialists and anaesthetists.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate should be a dedicated, skilled and motivated clinician with a wide breadth of experience in oncology, rehabilitation and the management of long-term conditions as well as having excellent exercise prescription skills. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Qualification in physiotherapy or BSc in Physiology/Sports Science or equivalent
  • AHCS registration or HCPC registration
  • Post graduate courses relevant to the clinical speciality


Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant clinical area
  • Member of special interest group


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working at band 6 or equivalent level
  • Experience of service development and audit.
  • Broad ranging experience in an acute setting including; neurology, surgery, orthopaedics, rehabilitation and oncology and palliative care demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning.
  • Senior experience in an outpatient setting including: musculoskeletal, management of long-term conditions and exercise prescription
  • Experience of clinical education of students, developing educational programmes, teaching and presenting.
  • Experience of multi-professional working


Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working at a band 7 level.
  • Experience in working within a prehabilitation setting.
  • Experience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve patient care quality.


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of cancer treatments and consequences of treatment related side effects.
  • Knowledge of risk factors for morbidity and mortality post-surgery, and how optimisation may mitigate these
  • Knowledge of person centred care, positive psychology, behaviour change and self-management
  • Demonstrate understanding and appropriate application of principles surrounding risk management, Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety
  • Recognises boundaries of own responsibilities.


Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Local and National Cancer Directives including how prehabilitation fits with personalised care


Skills / personal attributes&abilities:

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed communication skills i.e. Advanced Communication skills or equivalent
  • Advanced exercise prescription skills to maximise physiological adaptations in an often short time period
  • Able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own and others workloads to changing and often tight deadlines
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility and self-motivation
  • Ability to communicate effectively and flexibly and to adapt communication style to the needs of patient and staff.


Desirable criteria
  • High level of data collection and analytical skills
  • Previous experience of cardiopulmonary exercise testing
