Personnel Circumstances
Essential criteria
- Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
- Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
- Satisfactory DBS clearance
Registration
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register: CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview)
- A registable qualification with the UK GDC or eligibility to enter it within 6 months at the time of interview
Training
Essential criteria
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent (CESR) by date of interview
Desirable criteria
- Completion of a Head and Neck Cancer Fellowship or equivalent.
Qualification
Essential criteria
- MBBS or evidence of equivalent qualification
- BDS or equivalent
- FRCS (OMFS) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- A post graduate qualification MSc, MD, PhD, MA, Masters in Education
- Medical and Dental Degree
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of thorough, broad training and experience in OMFS
- Comprehensive knowledge of OMFS and ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of OMFS conditions
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering OMFS service including trauma, without direct supervision.
- Experience in OMFS Head&Neck Surgery with micro-vascular reconstruction
- Experience in Surgical Dermatology.
- Experience in the management, treatment and reconstruction of Head and Neck Malignancy
Desirable criteria
- Record of regular attendance at national specialty meetings in OMFS.
- Evidence of sub-specialty training or fellowship out of region
Clinical Governance/Audit
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
- Knowledge of the principles of evidence based practice
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and direct experience of audit.
- Experience of guideline appraisal
Desirable criteria
- Implementation of evidence based guidelines.
- Participation in relevant national audits.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and ability to teach clinical and operative skills to all grades of trainees and medical students
- Understands learner-centred teaching
- Completed a Teaching the Teachers or similar course
Desirable criteria
- Interest in teaching medical, nursing and other groups of staff
Research
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the principles of research and ability to interpret and apply clinical research.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
Desirable criteria
- Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal.
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
