Volunteer Caseworker in Manchester

Helping clients complete forms, including benefit applications, legal paperwork, or housing documents. Making phone calls on behalf of clients to government departments, service providers, or creditors. Advocating for clients by communicating clearly and assertively to resolve issues. Organising and reviewing paperwork, such as bills, letters, and official correspondence. Providing general administrative support, including note‑taking, case updates, and follow‑up actions. Where appropriate, offering practical advice based on life experience (e.g. running a business or household). Supporting clients in navigating bureaucracy and helping them feel more confident and in control. Knowledge of welfare and benefits is helpful but not essential—full training and support are provided.

Hours per session: Between 1 and 14 hours

Founded in 2010, we offer a free service across London and our hubs across the UK. Paperweight deals with bureaucracy, welfare and benefits, correspondence with banks & building societies, form filling, councils, utilities, bills, probate, insurance, divorce and legal issues.

We maintain a proactive approach to debt management and household expenditure and will intervene with creditors stabilising precarious situations, act as advocate, review and complete documents, and draft expert opinions when necessary.

Paperweight offers time, guidance, confidentiality, experience and a good deal of common sense. We steer our clients towards independence and give them the confidence to carry on with their lives.
