Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

• Role - Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
• Contract - 12 months
• Rate - £55 per hour inside IR35
• Location - Derby 5x per week

This role offers the chance to work on technically demanding programmes while mentoring junior engineers and driving innovation across design processes and methodologies.

Role Responsibilities

• Producing high-quality mechanical designs to customer specifications
• Creating detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings
• Supporting product development and design improvement initiatives
• Developing innovative engineering solutions to complex technical challenges
• Modifying and refining designs in line with project and customer requirements
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant safety and engineering standards
• Collaborating closely with manufacturing and engineering teams
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers within the team
• Presenting technical designs and solutions to customers and stakeholders

Skills

• Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within a highly regulated environment such as defence, nuclear, aerospace, or similar
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture principles
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX or equivalent
• Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcentre or similar
• Strong knowledge of engineering standards and safety legislation
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Engineering qualification in a relevant discipline
