HVAC Systems Design Engineer (AutoCAD), Newbury RG14 5SJ

The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Designing HVAC control system layouts and schematics in AutoCAD
• Supporting installers and distributors with system specification and technical queries
• Providing 2nd line technical support on control systems
• Assisting with pre-sales technical support
• Supporting hardware and firmware testing and validation
• Developing test rigs and demonstration panels
• Performing structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Producing technical documentation and system design specifications
• Assisting with technical training sessions

This is a practical, varied role suited to someone with solid industry experience who enjoys both design and technical problem-solving.

Essential Experience & Skills

• 5+ years’ experience in HVAC, BMS, or building services controls
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for HVAC/control system schematics
• Experience with residential or commercial control systems (e.g. Crestron, Lutron, Trend, Tridium, KNX)
• Strong understanding of control protocols (Modbus, TCP/IP, KNX)
• Familiarity with RS485 wiring and field device integration
• Good knowledge of networking concepts (Ethernet, NTP, MQTT, mDNS)
• Experience using protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark
• Solid understanding of electrical wiring systems and control panels
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
• Confident communicator with installers and contractors

Desirable (Nice to Have)

• Experience working within a manufacturer
• Knowledge of embedded systems or firmware debugging
• Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator for technical diagrams
• Experience developing test rigs or lab setups

This role combines HVAC system design, CAD work, and advanced controls support in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
