Who you'll be supporting&more about the role:

  • At Mountfield Gardens, we are in our later years, however, we are full of life and laughter.
  • Our needs are varied, one of us is registered as deaf with registered blind and the other person is registered blind with reduced hearing. We both have learning disabilities. One of us uses a wheelchair to get out and about and the other is independently mobile.
Our staff are trained to understand our needs despite the challenges we face with communicating these for ourselves, they know us well and our unique nonverbal communication methods

  • We have a great relationship with our Support Workers, and they ensure our days are full of the things we enjoy the most.
  • We enjoy using sensory equipment in our sensory room, we got a lot out of this activity.
  • We make use of the Alan Shearer, a sensory and social resource accessible to all disabled people in Newcastle. This is a short walk away from our front door meaning we visit often.
  • We have enjoyed day trips and weekends away to Blackpool, The Lake District and Kielder forest and would like to have more adventures like this.
  • We enjoy consistency in our days and like to stick to routines which our support workers know well.
  • We enjoy nothing more than a cuppa and a biscuit in front of the TV accompanied by our support workers.
  • We are laid back individuals in personality and have infectious laughs, however routine and structure is what makes us feel safe.

  • We have two support workers on shift each day and a two staff sleeping over each night.
  • Shifts are 8am till 11pm and a sleepover starts at 11pm and ends at 8am
