Volunteer Peer Mentor, Northampton

A Peer Mentor is a volunteer who has experienced similar challenges and supports people toward education, work, or employment. Volunteers gain confidence, empowerment and can access a more positive sense of identity.

• Are you able to devote 1-2 hours a week for a period of 3 months at our supported accommodation, Oasis House?
• Can you inspire others, give them hope through self‑disclosure and be an example of recovery?
• Can you build relationships based on trust, acceptance, understanding and empathy from a shared lived experience?
• Can you tap into your own experience to help us identify barriers, gaps in services, good practice and areas for improvement?

• Inspire service users using personal life experiences and be a positive role model.
• Provide a safe sounding board, listen without judgement.
• Help improve wellbeing, confidence, and independence by exploring supportive activities.
• Assist service users to engage with formalised support.
• Attend required training and development opportunities.

• Strong communication skills, including active listening.
• Enthusiasm and interest in encouraging proactive recovery.
• Teamwork, willingness to seek support from the peer mentor and volunteer team.
• Reliability and commitment to clients and meetings.
• Respect for confidentiality and ability to protect privacy.
• Maintain personal boundaries.

• After applying, the Peer Mentoring Coordinator will arrange a meeting to discuss the role.
• We will request two references and apply for an enhanced DBS check.
• Full training will be provided over a two‑day period.
