Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This varied role involves rotation within all routine areas of Cellular Pathology, including Embedding, Microtomy, Dissection scribe, Specimen Reception and Immunohistochemistry, so previous knowledge of these areas would be advantageous. Keyboard skills are a requirement for this post, as is the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. The ability to work well in a team and be able to communicate effectively with others is of paramount importance. In this support role there is also a requirement for an amount of manual handling.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• GCSE grade C or above English, Maths and a Science subject

Desirable criteria

• NVQ level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support or equivalent, e.g. 2 science A levels or above

Experience

Essential criteria

• Previous practical laboratory experience in a Histopathology or similar environment
• Computer literacy

Desirable criteria

• Transferrable skills

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria

• Is able to perform work with minimum supervision
