Principal Designer (Construction Design & Management Regulations) SF30468 Devonport, Plymouth Starting Salary: £36,525 About the role We're looking for a Principal Designer (CDM) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security. As a Principal Designer (Principal in accordance with CDM regulations) you'll work with an experienced team charged with providing Health and Safety Support delivering high class projects and some reactive maintenance. Using you experience in building Maintenance and Refurbishment and M&E projects you'll support Estates Project Management at Devonport on a number of projects of varying complexity, ensuring account is taken of all relevant Health and Safety regulatory requirements for safety by design, safety in construction, future safe maintenance/cleaning and after use of buildings and assets. You'll lead on the co-ordination of design safety for defined stages of construction projects, primarily in RIBA stage 1-4 and promote CDM 2015 principles for all project Stakeholders. You'll identify and communicate existing and design related hazards for mitigation during the design process and maintain a safe environment communicating any unsafe working scenarios. You'll review project design information and provide feedback to designers and the project team; proactively engage with personnel to ensure that CDM principles, safety standards and practices are understood and followed by project teams and promote a positive safety by design Culture. What do I need to do the role? You'll be educated to degree level in a Design discipline and have experience in building Maintenance and refurbishment and M&E projects. We would also like you to have the following: * NEBOSH Construction certificate * Supporting CPD: including asbestos awareness, scaffolding, temporary works, ongoing Construction orientated CPD, confined spaces. What else do I need to know? The successful candidate may need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
