Nursery Assistant, Reading

We are looking for a qualified Level 2 Nursery Assistant to join our team.

We are Little Dragons Nursery located within Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We pride ourselves on nurturing a positive and supportive environment for our children and offer a full‑time role for a Level 2 qualified Nursery Nurse.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, closed on Bank Holidays and during the Christmas and New Year period. The team works on a rota basis, covering 37.5 hours per week typically 7.5 hours per day.

Your role: you will be responsible for a group of children, providing daily care, activities, and completing developmental reviews. You will support children from 6 months to reception age, ensuring high standards of care and learning in a safe, stimulating environment, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. You will support and inspire children to become independent, creative, and confident individuals and help them achieve their full potential through engaging activities. Building strong relationships with parents is essential.

Main duties of the job

• Provide best possible care and stimulation for the children, meeting their physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs in a non‑discriminatory manner.
• Work in partnership with parents and encourage their involvement in the aims of the nursery and in all aspects of their child's care.
• Provide and maintain records as required and appropriate, in line with the EYFS Statutory Framework.
• Attend training courses to ensure modern, innovative and forward‑looking practices are maintained and to allow for personal career development.
• Assist in the daily domestic management of the nursery; ensuring that the nursery is kept safe, secure and clean at all times.

Education, Qualifications & Training

• NVQ 2 in childcare or equivalent qualification in line with those listed on the qualification finder section of .
• Understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Continuous Professional Development

• Good standard of written and spoken English.
• Knowledge of safeguarding children and child protection and appropriate protocol.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
• Working towards an NVQ 3 in childcare or equivalent qualification.

Previous Experience

• Experience of any work which demonstrates the skills required for the post.
• Experience of team work.
• Previous relevant work in childcare.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Understanding of the role of the Key Person.
• Knowledge of inclusive practice.

Additional Requirements

• Flexible approach to hours including willingness to attend meetings, training and nursery events.
