Our home is a 10 minute walk to Ickenham tube station (for the Metropolitan & Piccadilly tube lines) and a 15 minute walk or a few mins bus ride to West Ruislip tube station (for the Central line), from both these stations you can get trains into Central London in 30 minutes. You can always visit nearby Uxbridge town centre which has 2 indoor shopping centres and an outdoor shopping centre along with a cinema and lots of bars and restaurants, if you don't feel like going into Central London.
