Fixed Term - 12 months | 6.73 PA (additional 1.875 PA's available)

Applications are invited from candidates with experience in General Paediatrics.

This role is to provide cover for a short-term career break and to support improvement of outpatient capacity for children awaiting General Paediatric clinics. The post will involve delivery of General Paediatric outpatient clinics based at Sheffield Children's Hospital and the Northern General Hospital.

The successful applicant will also contribute to the General Paediatric Consultant of the Week rota and participate in out-of-hours acute General Paediatrics.

Applicants must hold, or be within six months of obtaining, a CCST in Paediatrics at the time of commencing the post.

Consultants who are unable to work full-time for personal reasons are encouraged to apply. Where applicable, job plan modifications will be discussed on an individual basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues and the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The General Paediatrics team delivers a comprehensive secondary-level paediatric service to the population of Sheffield. The service provides daily General Paediatric outpatient clinics, inpatient acute care, and an established Consultant of the Week model, with responsibility for all admitted patients during in-hours. An out-of-hours on-call service ensures continuity of high-quality care at all times.

The service is led by Dr Lucy Hinds, Team Leader for General Paediatrics, with regular Consultant meetings supporting collaborative working, service development, and clinical governance.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
  • Delivering excellent, high-quality outpatient and inpatient care to the local population
  • Ensuring care is accessible, responsive, and patient-centred
  • Maintaining the highest clinical standards across all areas of general paediatric practice
  • Providing care that meets the physical, emotional, and social needs of children and their families
  • Offering high-quality training, supervision, and educational support for medical students and junior doctors throughout their placement at Sheffield Children's Hospital
