Head Chef, Sheffield

The Head Chef at Grappa Ristorante E Bar is a full-time, on-site role based in Sheffield. The Head Chef will lead all kitchen operations, including planning and executing a high-quality, Italian-inspired menu, overseeing food preparation, and ensuring consistent presentation and portion control. Responsibilities include managing inventory and ordering, monitoring food costs and waste, and maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards. The Head Chef will recruit, train, and schedule kitchen team members, provide ongoing coaching, and foster a respectful, collaborative work environment. The role also involves working closely with management on menu development, specials, and events, as well as responding to guest feedback to continuously improve the dining experience.

• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a high-quality restaurant environment, ideally with Italian or Mediterranean cuisine.
• Strong leadership, team management, and mentoring skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and develop a diverse kitchen team.
• Deep knowledge of culinary techniques, menu planning, and recipe development, with a passion for seasonal, high-quality ingredients.
• Solid understanding of food safety, HACCP, and kitchen hygiene standards, with a track record of maintaining a clean, safe workplace.
• Competence in kitchen administration, including stock control, ordering, cost management, and adherence to budget targets.
• Excellent time management and organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple tickets and high service volumes calmly and efficiently.
• Clear and professional communication skills for effective collaboration with front-of-house teams and management.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by restaurant operations.
• Culinary qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent professional experience is highly desirable.
• Right to work in the UK and readiness to work on-site in Sheffield.
