We are seeking a Research Software Engineer / Computational Modelling Specialist with experience in power electronics to support the implementation of a structured assessment framework developed within the University. The framework integrates multiple project components into a unified system capable of analysing data, exploring uncertainty, and producing transparent, defensible outputs for research and decision-making.
The role is primarily analytical and collaborative. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across different project areas to understand how each component operates, what data are available, and what uncertainties or assumptions are associated with them. This may include engagement with partner organisations and short secondments where necessary to understand data sources and operational contexts.
A key objective is to translate this understanding into a coherent computational workflow that enables consistent analysis and reporting. Software development is therefore an important enabling activity, but it follows from careful interpretation of the methodology and data.
The role requires strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.
About the team-
You will be joining a multidisciplinary team at the forefront of groundbreaking research as part of the£7 million EPSRC-funded programme grant Sustainable Multi-Sector Electrification Using Advanced Integrated Motor Drive Technologies . This ambitious initiative, led by the University of Nottingham in collaboration with the University of Bristol, Newcastle University, and over 20 industrial partners, brings together world-leading experts to drive innovation in advanced motor drive technologies. You will work alongside researchers and industry leaders to tackle real-world engineering challenges and contribute significantly to global sustainability goals.
About You:
We are looking for a highly skilled researcher with expertise in advanced engineering analytics, decision modeling, and systems development. You should bring experience managing complex, cutting-edge research projects and have a proven track record of collaboration with academic and industrial partners. Exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to drive innovative solutions, and a passion for advancing sustainable technologies are essential to succeed in this role.
What we offer-
Please submit your CV along with a brief statement (no more than 300 words) directly linking your experience to the essential criteria listed in the job description. This statement should focus on how your experience align with the core requirements of the role, not a traditional cover letter.
Your working hours will be (20 hours per week). We may also consider job share arrangements.
This is a fixed term contract for a duration of two years.
Please contact Liliana De Lillo if you have further questions about this role. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
