About the Role

Tel Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior IT Technician to provide comprehensive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line IT support within a school environment. This is a hands-on, senior-level role requiring both strong technical expertise and the ability to support and engage with staff and students.

You will be responsible for maintaining robust IT systems, ensuring safeguarding-compliant infrastructure, and delivering a high standard of support aligned with education sector needs.

Previous experience working within an education environment is required. Applicants must be able to provide at least one reference from a school, college, or education setting upon offer.

Key ResponsibilitiesOnsite & Helpdesk Support

  • Provide responsive IT support via Helpdesk, phone, in person and email.
  • Manage and prioritise tickets effectively, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across hardware, software, networking, and servers.
  • Install, configure, and maintain IT equipment including desktops, laptops, and servers.
  • Support classroom technology (interactive panels, projectors, AV equipment).
  • Manage printers, scanners, and other school-based peripherals.
  • Manage and maintain backup solutions

Education IT Systems & Safeguarding

  • Administer and maintain MIS systems (SIMS) with the help from third party support.
  • Support systems such as ParentPay, safeguarding software, and access control (e.g. Net2).
  • Ensure compliance with school safeguarding policies, including web filtering (e.g. Smoothwall) and monitoring systems.
  • Maintain secure user environments for staff and students in line with KCSIE and GDPR requirements.
  • Manage student/staff onboarding and offboarding processes.

Infrastructure & Network Management

  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Wi-Fi (Unifi), VLANs, and network infrastructure.
  • Configure and support NPS/Radius authentication.
  • Monitor system performance, backups, antivirus, and security systems.

Leadership & Project Work

  • Act as the Senior IT technician.
  • Work alongside account managers on IT projects and upgrades.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, asset registers, and site records.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in 1st–3rd line IT support.
  • Previous IT experience within an education setting (essential).
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Server & Active Directory
  • Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Networking, broadband, VLANs, and VOIP
  • Experience with education-specific platforms (MIS, safeguarding tools, etc.).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working across multi-site school trusts.
  • Knowledge of SCCM or device imaging solutions.
  • Experience with Smoothwall, Unifi, and school firewall systems.
  • Understanding of DfE standards and education IT compliance

Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
