Trustee - Volunteer, Swansea

We are seeking Trustees to join our Board, governing the work of Popham Kidney Support, a Charity which provides support, advocacy and education to Welsh kidney patients, their families and carers. Applications from those with legal or fundraising experience would be of particular interest.

As a Trustee, you will support the Charity's growth across Wales, helping us reach more patients and engage more volunteers.

Trustees with lived experience of kidney disease or renal health professionals will have direct input into service delivery. Trustees with fundraising experience will lead our fundraising sub‑committee, supporting income generation to expand services and increase the grants we provide to those in financial need. Those with legal expertise will take a lead on legal matters and contribute to our Finance and Governance Sub‑Committee.

Your contribution will help extend our reach and impact – enabling us to support more people through our Peer Support service and to develop initiatives such as our Youth Programme, helping young people with kidney disease transition into adulthood with confidence and a positive outlook.

We are seeking individuals who are keen to contribute the skills, expertise, and experience they have gained throughout their professional lives to support the work of our charity.

Successful candidates will demonstrate integrity, sound judgement, and a commitment to the values of the organisation. They will be approachable, collaborative, and willing to engage positively with fellow trustees, volunteers, staff, and the wider kidney community.

We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of kidney disease, renal healthcare professionals, and those involved in kidney research or related fields.

As a Trustee, you'll help shape the Charity's strategic direction and governance. We're a small, engaged board of nine and are looking for people ready to plan an active role in shaping both how the Charity runs and where it goes next, while working collaboratively to support collective decisions.

If you have legal or fundraising experience, you'll be able to focus on these areas. Fundraising experience would include leading a fund‑raising sub‑committee, while legal expertise would contribute to our Finance and Governance Sub‑Committee. If you have lived experience of kidney disease or are a renal health professional, you will have direct input into our service delivery.

Our flagship Peer Support Service programme offers one‑to‑one support from trained mentors who are kidney patients themselves. We also run group sessions for patients and families, education programmes with healthcare professionals, exercise groups, and provide advice on diet and nutrition.

We've secured funding to develop a Youth Transition Programme, supporting young people moving into adult services, and have also secured funding to develop the Peer Support Service in the primary care sector.

You'll support our small staff team in helping people living with kidney disease feel less alone – and more able to live life on their own terms.
