Trustee - Volunteer, Sudbury CP

The Board currently has 5 passionate and forward‑thinking members with extensive experience in social care, NHS, and banking. We have exciting plans for the future, including social‑enterprise development.

We are looking for a Trustee with extensive experience to strengthen the Board. You will have the support of the current Chair, Vice‑Chair, other trustees, and the executive team.

• Attend Board meetings (currently 4–6 per year) and contribute to strategic direction.
• Work in identified sub‑groups with one or two other Trustees.
• Support the charity’s long‑term sustainability by ensuring governance meets the needs of the services.
• Take an active role beyond planned meetings when required, such as meeting with funders, business planning, reviewing practice and procedures, or providing advice on operational issues in your area of expertise.
• Reimburse out‑of‑pocket expenses incurred while performing these duties.

• Experienced Trustee, or at least strong governance understanding and leadership skills.
• Passion for making a difference to the lives of disadvantaged people.
• Experience or working alongside the voluntary sector in Suffolk, Norfolk, or Essex.
• Knowledge of people with learning disabilities and/or mental health challenges.
• Marketing, social‑enterprise experience, and optionally farming knowledge (not essential).
• Hybrid working availability.

We currently serve over 200 vulnerable people and families in Suffolk. It is vitally important to provide strong governance to support the experienced CEO and senior management team as we expand service provision. As a small charity, the Chair and other Trustees may take active involvement in the Suffolk Befriending Scheme beyond planned meetings, including engaging with funders, business planning, reviewing practice, and advising on operational and other issues in areas of special expertise.
