About the roleThis is a 12‑month fixed‑term role at the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow. As Gallery Trainee you will contribute to the day‑to‑day operations around the collections and exhibitions and provide basic administrative and practical support to the Curatorial Team. The role will benefit from being part of a small multidisciplinary team and have regular contact with the Curator to support your learning and development.
Visa: We do not provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already hold a form of UK work authorisation that does not require sponsorship.
Responsibilities- Undertake display collections care duties, ensuring objects on display are clean and dust‑free and carrying out basic repairs to gallery interactives.
- Pack and unpack objects in the collections store.
- Provide basic technical and administrative support for the development of exhibitions.
- Invigilate visiting researchers in the collections store and library.
- Support technical aspects of collections and exhibitions.
- Data entry into forms and templates for object loans and exhibitions.
- Data entry for the collections management database.
- Provide administrative and in‑person support for events and gallery activities, including guest registration.
- Assist in responding to the climate emergency (specific duties to be clarified).
- Interest in museums and galleries.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good overall knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organisational skills, with ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Numerate and accurate with strong attention to detail.
Indicative qualifications:
• English and Math Qualification
• Relevant NVQ Level 1 or 2 qualification
- Satisfactory employment references and CIFAS identity checks.
- Satisfactory declaration of interest.
- Speak fluent English with confidence and accuracy; this requirement does not refer to any particular English language qualifications, regional or international accents, dialects, speech impediments or the tone of conversations.
