About the VMD
You may not have heard of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), but have you ever:

The VMD is the regulatory and policy lead responsible for issues concerning the authorisation, use, and manufacture of veterinary medicines in the UK.

We are looking for an Accounts Clerk to join our Finance team and provide support to both Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR). This role is a great opportunity for someone who is organised, detailâfocused and keen to develop their finance skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Job descriptionYou will support the delivery of dayâtoâday financial processes, including:
- Process purchase and sales invoices and credit notes accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Processing Government Procurement Card (GPC) transactions and expense claims.
- Review invoices and purchase orders, identifying any queries or discrepancies and working with the appropriate people to resolve these promptly.
- Supporting credit control activity in a professional and customerâfocused way.
- Reconcile supplier statements and request copies of any missing invoices where needed.
- Verify and process requests to set up new suppliers, as well as amendments to existing details, offering clear guidance and support.
- Monitor and manage the accounts mailbox, responding to supplier queries professionally and within expected timeframes.
- Support daily, weekly and monthly finance reporting, including assisting with monthâend activities.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the team, providing administrative support to help work progress efficiently and on schedule.
- Maintaining accurate supplier records on the finance system (Sage X3).
You do not need previous experience in all aspects of the role  training and ongoing support will be provided.
- Confidence working with numbers, with good analytical and problemâsolving skills.
- Organisational and administrative abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to export, sort and filter data, and use basic formulas in Microsoft Excel.
- A good eye for detail, with the ability to identify errors within large sets of data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Experience working in a fastâpaced environment, or the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- A positive, flexible approach to work, with the ability to organise and prioritise your workload effectively.
- Willingness and ability to learn bespoke inâhouse IT systems, including updating and searching databases and carrying out routine tasks.
- Comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification when needed, recognising this as an important part of learning and collaboration.
- An understanding of finance software, preferably Sage X3, although training will be provided.

Sift
Scoring for all criteria for the application is from 1 to 7 Â A score of 4 and above will progress to interview unless there is a large number of applications, if so an initial sift will be conducted using the CV and Personal Statement. The panel may agree a benchmark score higher than 4 with a rationale for the decision. Any candidates applying under the Guaranteed Interview Scheme who scores 4 or above on all of the criteria will be offered an interview.
Interview
If successful at the application stage, you will be invited to interview where you will be assessed on experience, behaviours and strengths.
For experience, we will ask you to tell us  in your own words  about your relevant experience against the requirements set out in the job advert. You are asked to keep this to 10 minutes.

Sift and Interview dates
The sift will be conducted week commencing 22 June 2026.
Interviews are currently scheduled to take place in person at the VMD the week commencing 13th July 2026.

Contract
This role isnÂt suited to a home-working contract.
Salary
New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.
If you are new to the civil service, or coming back into the civil service, you will start on the advertised starting salary. You must be in post by 1st April to qualify for that yearÂs pay rise.
