Job description

Cheshire Constabulary are recruiting to the role of Senior Developer within our development team. We provide key operational systems to our customer base including our own internal mobile data applications for frontline officers.

Please be aware that this is a temporary role for two years but there is the possibility this role may become permanent.

You will be responsible for the ownership and delivery of development work, ensuring that requests for development are properly assessed and prioritised and progressed through the initiation, development and handover phases.

Employed by Cheshire Constabulary you will provide a service to Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service as part of the Blue Light Collaboration. The role will be based at Cheshire Constabulary HQ, Winsford however agile working is available.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To implement best practices, standards and procedures including quality and delivery methodologies to ensure the wider development team can work more efficiently and effectively and solutions are maintainable and consistent.
  • To develop strategic plans for adoption of new IT technology including migration plans from old technologies. Lead on the implementation of plans to ensure achievement of benefits.
  • To lead assigned development staff, mentoring, setting objectives and development priorities to ensure team members deliver quality products to the customers.
  • To oversee development and delivery of developments, in terms of monitoring quality, timeliness, cost etc. Reviewing and signing off more detailed design proposals emerging from the developers ensuring these are workable.

Experience and Skills:
  • Educated to level 6 in Information Technology or business related subject or equivalent experience
  • Hold or be prepared to obtain ITIL Foundation certification within 12 months of appointment.
  • Substantial experience in IS/IT with some experience in a specific technical field and leading technical teams.
  • Significant experience in the analysis, design and development of technical solutions
  • Substantial experience of successfully delivering major IT developments and developing strategic plans
  • In-depth knowledge of some of the following: .NET Maui/Xamarin, ASP.NET, .Net Core, C#, JavaScript, JSON, HTML, SSIS, Business Objects, Sharepoint, Azure Dev Ops
  • Knowledge of SQL Server databases and their scripting languages along with a proficiency in database design.
  • Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for problem solving with the ability to present technical details to a non-technical audience.
  • Ideally you will understand a variety of software development approaches and methodologies including Agile and Waterfall.
  • Aptitude for creativity thinking and excellent analytical skills
