Deputy Manager – Residential Care Home

Hours: Full-time – up to 42 hours per week
Salary: £31,000 per annum, depending on experience

Hollywynd Rest Home is seeking a reliable, confident, and motivated Deputy Manager to support the day-to-day running of our long-established residential care home, which provides care for up to 40 elderly residents.

This role is a blend of office-based responsibilities and hands-on leadership on the floor, leading shifts and supporting the care team to deliver high-quality, person-Centred care.

About the Role

The Deputy Manager will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home operates safely, effectively, and in line with regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include overseeing care documentation, supporting and supervising staff, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality care that meets residents’ needs.

The role includes:

• Regular shifts working on the floor
• 12 hours of dedicated supernumerary time per week
• Participation in the on-call Rota

The shift pattern may include 12-hour, 8-hour, and 6-hour shifts.

Week 1

• Monday: 07:45–14:00 – Office
• Tuesday: 07:45–20:00 – Floor
• Wednesday: Day off
• Thursday: 07:45–20:00 – Floor/Office
• Friday: 07:45–20:00 – Floor

Week 2

• Monday: 07:45–14:00 – Office
• Tuesday: Day off
• Wednesday: 07:45–14:00 – Office
• Thursday: 07:45–20:00 – Floor
• Friday: 07:45–20:00 – Floor
• Saturday or Sunday: 07:45–14:00

This rota is an example only. Hours, shift patterns, and salary will be discussed at interview.

The Deputy Manager will also be required to act up as Registered Manager in special circumstances. During these periods, a more office-based shift pattern will be required.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven leadership experience within a care home setting
• Ability to lead, support, and supervise staff during shifts
• Strong understanding of care planning, including writing, reviewing, and updating care plans
• Confidence in administering medication in line with policy and legislation
• Good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and reporting requirements
• Ability to manage day-to-day care issues and respond appropriately to emergencies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to complete accurate daily records, incident reports, and handovers
• Good understanding of risk assessments and safe working practices
• Ability to build positive, professional relationships with residents, families, and staff
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
• Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, with willingness to work towards NVQ Level 5

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience using Camascope medication systems
• Experience using Person-Centred Software (PCS)
• Experience submitting CQC notifications
• Knowledge of or experience participating in CQC inspections
• Experience completing DoLS applications and associated paperwork
• Previous experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior Care role
