Accountant: So what exactly do accountants do? Their main function is to analyze profits and losses. They gather and evaluate financial data and help companies maintain their financial records and make important business decisions based on their books.

Some popular positions that fall under accounting include auditors, budget analysts, and accounts clerks. An auditor is an outside party that conducts a financial report of a company or organisation. They are responsible for holding corporations accountable, making sure that their financial statements are accurate, and if not, finding and assessing the deviation. If this doesn’t sound like the right job for you, you may prefer budget analyzing. Here you can work within an organisation to manage budgets and organize spending. This role can be found within different sectors like government, non-profits, and higher education. Alternatively, you may find success in the role of accounts clerk. They work with accounting software for banks and financial institutions. You can find more specific roles within this, such as accounts payable clerks and accounts receivable clerks that focus on those respective reports.

Banking: The banking sector is huge, so let’s unpack the different levels encompassed in this. You can find different roles on a branch and corporation level. Bankers or branch clerks, oversee the operations and daily runnings of a specific branch of a bank. Credit counselors also work at the bank and deal with customers to help them manage their finances and provide them with options. At a corporation level, there are bank executives, investment bankers, brokers, risk managers, and more. For these positions, you will need to have a background in finance, including a bachelor’s degree from a top university, experience from an internship or trainee program, and preferably an MBA or similar.

Insurance: The insurance industry focuses on analyzing risks and protecting individuals and companies. Common roles in the field include actuaries, underwriters, and claims analysts. For most roles, you will need a bachelor’s degree in either mathematics or statistics, but in some cases, this may not be necessary. To work as an insurance agent or sales representative, for example, some companies will accept people without a higher education degree.

If you are looking to apply to any of these roles, that’s great! You can search for them on Locanto and find companies hiring for financial positions near you!
