What’s the difference between recruitment and HR roles?

Working in human resources is similar to recruitment; both fields specialize in the hiring process, from finding qualified candidates to conducting interviews, to assisting with the final decision-making process. However, recruiters’ only priority is this - recruitment. In this role, you will be constantly reaching out to potential candidates, and matching them up with roles that would be most suitable for them and the company. Often recruiters work in an agency, so they can be working with people in all different industries across a variety of companies and they will be responsible to mediate between applicants and hiring managers. This role also typically involves a commission-based salary, so how often your applicants get hired will reflect positively on your salary.

On the other hand, with a position in human resources, the recruitment process is only a part of the typical job description. Following the hiring process, an HR representative will handle the contracts and paperwork, and assist new employees with settling into the company. They help new and current employees in the workplace with growth and development and often are involved in their performance reviews. They handle any conflict within the company, listen to employees and act on behalf of the business’s best interests. They also have administrative tasks, dealing with paperwork and HR systems.
