This is an exciting time to join our team and be part of a transformative journey. As one of three large clinical divisions we are in search of a driven, highly experienced Head of Operations who is motivated and committed to making a real difference in the delivery of outstanding clinical support services for our community. As the Head of Operations, you will play a pivotal leadership role within the Clinical Support Services Care Group, working in close partnership with the Care Group Clinical Director. Your leadership will set the tone for excellence, compassion, and collaborative working by inspiring teams to achieve their best and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the operational delivery of the Care Group, ensuring services are safe, effective, responsive, and efficient.
  • Developing strategies and business plans that align with divisional and organisational priorities.
  • Establishing robust performance management frameworks to ensure delivery of key activity, quality, and financial targets.
  • Providing focused leadership across specialty services such as Radiology and Pathology, ensuring improved performance and sustainability Trust-wide. This includes ensuring:
  • Robust tracking and data quality
  • Reducing inequalities in access and outcomes
  • Developing innovative approaches to improve timeliness and effectiveness of care
  • Offering visible, consistent leadership with clear oversight of operational issues, risks, mitigations, and improvements.
  • Working collaboratively with Divisional Management Teams, corporate functions, staff-side colleagues, clinicians, and operational leaders to drive high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Maintaining alignment with national priorities and operating plans, ensuring that services remain compliant, high‑performing, and future-focused.

Person Specification Education
  • Masters or 3 years experience in a senior operational role
  • Evidence of post‑qualification and continuous professional development
  • Expert and relevant knowledge in healthcare management
  • HCPC Registration or GPhC
Knowledge
  • GuidanceScore Experience of senior leadership role in a large NHS organisation
Skills
  • Ability to influence and persuade others, creating successful and effective working relationships through strong, positive, professional interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in making and advising on complex decisions involving financial and operational risk and sensitivities up to and including Board level.
